LENA & RYAN
“Organizing our wedding from the US, we wanted to ensure we found a fantastic local planner who had connections to a variety of vendors and could support us for every step of the way in the planning journey. We are so grateful we found Love & Gatherings.”
We’re not sure you can get more beautifully Irish than this landscape & this castle
A joyfully colourful wedding amidst the Connemara Wilds
Lena and Ryan’s wedding at Ballynahinch Castle was the kind of weekend that reminds me exactly why I love what I do—joyful, relaxed and utterly rooted in the wild beauty of Connemara. From our early planning calls with them in Washington DC, it was clear they weren’t chasing a showy destination wedding; they wanted to bring their favourite people to a place that already held their hearts, and let the landscape set the tone.

We leaned into the castle’s setting—misty mountains, glassy water, and that ever-changing Atlantic light—keeping the design palette soft and natural, and allowing florals to feel meadowy and a touch untamed. The Studio Florist created beautifully loose arrangements and aisle florals that looked as though they might have sprung up overnight from the castle grounds, echoing the gardens while still feeling refined enough for a historic house. Throughout, we balanced romance with ease: considered tablescapes (custom sourced by our extra special UK suppliers) and stationery, yes, but always with the sense that guests could exhale, move freely, and really experience the place.
One of my favourite aspects of this celebration was how personal it felt to Lena and Ryan. Friends (like their gorgeous stationer Abby Armistead) played a role in the creative team, and there was a warmth and familiarity in every interaction, from morning preparations in the castle rooms to late-night laughter in the bar. Dreamcatcher Productions captured the movement and sound of the weekend, while Joshua Kane’s photography bottled up all that soft Connemara light in the most timeless way.
This wedding has gotten lots of love from attendees & admirers alike, which feels especially meaningful given how much heart Lena and Ryan poured into sharing Ireland with their guests. For me, it will always stand out as a masterclass in what happens when you trust the setting, choose a stellar team, and let the emotion—not the timeline—lead the way.

“Kate was delightful to work with; she took the time to truly listen to us and our vision of a wild and bright garden wedding and worked tirelessly to make it come to life. Kate is a true creative, and a calm, rational and empathetic force throughout all the decision-making moments.”
