Gloster House

Set within the graceful surrounds of Birr in County Offaly, Gloster House stands as one of Ireland’s most distinctive wedding venues — a place where Georgian architecture meets the quiet rhythm of river and parkland. At Love & Gatherings, we’re captivated by its sense of calm authority: a private estate where the River Camcor and sweeping lawns shape the mood, yet the charm of the town feels close enough to touch. As couples arrive along its leafy avenue, with the house unfolding softly ahead, the mood of the weekend unfurls — this is a day that feels grounded in place and personality, rather than simply wrapped in décor.

Step inside and the atmosphere softens into something more intimate and lived‑in — less about polished formality and more about comfort, ease, and the sense of being welcomed into a home that’s ready to celebrate. The rooms feel generous without being cold, styled with a light hand so that conversation, laughter, and movement come naturally. Some spaces draw you in with soft lighting and informal seating, while others open up for dancing and mingling, giving each wedding a gentle flow that feels spontaneous rather than choreographed. It’s this balance of considered design and casual warmth that makes Gloster such a natural fit for celebrations that feel both refined and truly relaxed.

What do we love most about gatherings at Gloster House?

  1. It’s run by the family who have painstakingly refurbished this historical building, over decades - Tom, Mary and their son Nigel will be your hosts & show at every turn, that Gloster is their home and their labour of love.

  2. The decor so authentic; imperfectly perfect & full of antiques… but the palette is all Farrow & Ball subtlety, so is as ideal a backdrop as it is a home.

  3. Catering comes via external suppliers, which means its so customisable and can take a meandering journey across the weekend.

  4. They’re constantly improving - every time we visit, they’ve developed something we didn’t even notice was lacking. Now, they can accommodate 40 guests overnight.

  5. The local town of Birr is very picturesque and boasts great pubs and accommodations
